Batman commission by butones Batman commission by butones
2nd. Batman commission I did. Was playing with a new experimental technique with my rendering style... not sure how this works out.. hope my client liked it!

Was kinda worried it might look lopsided too, since a lot of the parts are in blacks and it might melt into the figure making it lok smaller when it's in front of full blacks....

Oh well...

It seems strange to say this about a work that has thousands of views but i'd say this is one of the more under-rated batman drawings. Real class.

knowing that you use them too makes me feel alot more confident.
Thanks!

No problem : )

Well don't feel that way, it's not, without lines to layout the figures.. I don't think anyone in this world can do it perfectly every single line : )... Well maybe some exceptions.. no one I personally knew though ....

guidelines as light lines to figure out the proportions and pose of the character along with perspective.

reference lines would probably be a better term.

great artist and great person!
The new style is a lot cleaner looking. it has this exaggerated look thats out of this world. really cool
my question to you is do you use guide lines? if not, have you ever used them?

:D like, how do you make lines and renderings so thin and clean, when i make a line or rendering with pencil(2H), it becomes way far thick then your lines and renderings. thick and darker..and do you use gummy or something to make 'too light' renderings and making tones?

Not really, since the image is reduced in phtoshop, it would tend to look finer, but all are done with one pencil and draw like how everyone else would put the pencil to the paper : ) Maybe just more practice in controlling line weights... even then, it should not really matter that much...

I think you should stick to your original style, Philip. Somehow this looks too clean for my liking. I was really inspired by the rawness of your work in Spawn, I just love the "mistakes" in the pencils. This piece somehow is all too well choreographed, unlike your other pieces.

Keep doing what you do best, friend...;)

I agree with "daborien" that left leg is a bit wierd...lol...besides that i really dont like is "bat ears" ,but this is only a personal opinion...they´re to small and far apart, but thats just your interpretation of it :)

besides everything its an awesome drawing and its really interesting watching the evolution of your style :)

the person that gets that is indeed lucky
